About

A calmer explanation of what this work is trying to contribute.

What this is

A framework for helping organizations recover alignment under pressure.

Adaptable Organizations is a conceptual and practical frame for understanding what happens when coherence starts to degrade inside a team, company, or institution. It focuses on what makes return possible once drift is already underway.

The premise is simple: organizations cannot be kept coherent by intent alone. They need operating conditions that help people notice drift, re-orient, and come back together without excessive friction. That is the kind of work the guides are meant to support.

Why it exists

Because most organizational language names the problem too late.

Teams often feel the drag before they can describe it: alignment that does not hold, strategy that degrades in translation, or growth that changes the system faster than the system can adapt. Those patterns are real, but they often get reduced to generic language about communication or culture.

This framework exists to give that earlier layer more precision so organizations can work on drift and return before the only available response is escalation. If those symptoms sound familiar, start with the articles.

What it is not

Not a culture slogan, a productivity hack, or a promise of permanent alignment.

Adaptable Organizations is not trying to remove ambiguity, conflict, or change from organizational life. It is also not a disguised control system for squeezing more output from an incoherent operating environment.

The goal is narrower and more practical: help organizations become better at restoring orientation and coordination when conditions shift. The framework explains how that works.

Related to Adaptable Discipline and grounded in CDT.

Adaptable Organizations shares core ideas with Adaptable Discipline, which focuses on return capacity at the individual level, and with Coherence Dynamics Theory, which provides the deeper theory beneath both.

The distinction is scale. Adaptable Discipline asks what helps a person return. Adaptable Organizations asks what helps an organization recover when the system itself is under strain. If you want the deeper theory behind both, go to Coherence Dynamics Theory.
